"Right now we don't have any consultants from South America in the network, but we hope via the industry managers reached by the BN Americas news service, that will change, as they encourage consultants to join in.

Generally in the Americas, critical experience, and even data often rest with a local consultant. This differs from other places, like Australia, where the open file records are better. On a recent fact finding trip to South America SkilledGeoscience found talented consultants in many regions and towns. But how does an outsider find them? These people knew how to operate in the local culture, they knew of prospects and had access to critical data one could not have found otherwise. In short, they are the heart and soul of the exploration busines.

Whilst it is true that for consultants their work often comes from established relationships, it is equally true that the mining and oil world is now more global and some players have changed. How would a foreign company, looking to enter, say exploration in Bolivia, find someone with the right skills? A friend suggested looking for a consultant in Vancouver. That's a true story, but a bit sad."
